Below we have our mostly frequently asked questions. If you have any questions that are not listed on this section please don’t hesitate to contact us.
If you have private medical insurance please bring your policy membership & authorisation number when you attend your first appointment. If you have been assessed by a doctor, or have had an x-ray or MRI scan relating to your injury, please bring any reports or referral letters with you. No, Physiotherapists don’t require a GP or consultant’s referral in order to assess, diagnose and treat your condition or injuries.
If you’re coming with health insurance you most likely will need a GP referral. We would suggest you get in touch with your Health provider to clarify how they operate in those cases.
An initial assessment usually takes around 30 minutes. It will consist of your history taking, a full physical examination of the body and problem area, treatment and advice.
To accurately examine you, your therapist may ask you to shed some clothing as they will need to see the affected area and often the joints above and below. You may want to bring some shorts or leggings with you for back and leg examinations. Only after a full consultation with you will the therapist decide on the best treatment.
If subsequent visits are required this will also be discussed and an individually tailored treatment programme planned. The treatment type selected depends upon your specific requirements. Our aim is to reduce your pain, promote tissue healing and a rapid recovery. We will also educate you on how to avoid a reoccurrence of your problem. Follow up appointments will always involve an assessment of your progress as well as treatment.
Different conditions require different approaches. The number of sessions will depend on several factors, such as how long has the problem been there, how your body responds to treatment, how severe it is, etc. It will all be discussed with you during your first session and we will be completely transparent. If our answers bring up new questions please contact us at any time. We are here to help!
