Running Club
Our running club was set up in November 2017 by our practise Manager Tracy Harris, following our first Wellbeing Day. On that day, our clients were advised how beneficial exercise was for wellbeing and running in particular had proven benefits for good mental health. Tracy decided to act straight away and invited everyone running. Since then, our runners meet at the clinic every Tuesday to run around the estate. They also meet up at a variety of other venues during the week. Within the first 2 months of starting, our runners took part in the Porthcawl Parkrun completing their first ever 5km! Since then, some have moved onto a 10km, ½ marathon and full marathon.
We are immensely proud of our runners, particularly those who were complete novices at the start. If you’d like to join our fun, free and non competitive running club, meet at one2one on a Tuesday at 6pm. We welcome all ages and abilities.
Yoga Classes
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing.
The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago and has been adapted in other countries in a variety of ways.
Studies suggest yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. There is some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain and arthritis, depression and stress.
Our popular Bridgend yoga classes offer a variety of styles to suit all participants.
At one2one we have 2 fantastic teachers Claire Eynon & Mike Williams, that between them practise Hatha, Yin & Vinyasa Flow Yoga.
Pilates Classes
Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing. It is particularly beneficial for back pain sufferers and posture related conditions. Pilates exercises are done on a mat or using special equipment, depending on your needs.
Pilates was developed by German-born Joseph Pilates, who believed mental and physical health were closely connected. His method was influenced by western forms of exercise, including gymnastics, boxing and Greco-Roman wrestling. Pilates immigrated to the US in the 1920s and opened a studio in New York, where he taught his method, which he called "contrology" – for several decades.
Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. The apparatus can be used to provide support for beginners and people with certain medical conditions, as well as resistance for people looking to challenge their body.
As well as our popular Bridgend Pilates Classes, our instructor is able to work on a one2one basis with clients, which can work well alongside physiotherapy to strengthen core muscles - it is worth asking your physiotherapist if you would benefit from this.
Practitioners say regular pilates can improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension. For elite athletes, including dancers, pilates can complement training by developing whole-body strength and flexibility, and help reduce the risk of injury.
Our fantastic teacher Tina Lloyd will work with you to achieve your goals, with the added benefit of having our physiotherapists input.
Strength & Conditioning Circuits
Angharad Mason, our senior physiotherapist, runs a strength and conditioning circuits class on a Monday evening. The focus of this class is to strengthen your full body with an important emphasis on core muscles. Under the watchful eye of Angharad, she will make sure you’re doing the exercises correctly to avoid injury and get the most out of your workout. Our sportsmen and women find this class particularly beneficial as part of their training programme and they really notice a difference in performance from improving their strength.
